Aston Villa took the lead after just three minutes as Douglas Luiz reacted quick to a save from Alisson, who saved the midfielder’s earlier header.
Liverpool replied instantly three minutes later as Joel Matip bundled the ball home from close-range after the home side failed to clear their lines from a free-kick.
Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead in the 65th minute as Sadio Mane continued his bright form with a header from Luis Diaz’s cross.
The win means Liverpool now lie second only on goal difference before City’s visit to Wolves on Wednesday.
The Reds did suffer an injury setback when Fabinho went off in the first half with a hamstring problem that must make him doubtful for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.
