Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to the list of nominees for the 2022 Ballon d’Or Award.
Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala made the shortlist for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or player of the year award.
The 27-year-old Super Falcon made the 20-woman shortlist following her superb display for Barcelona Femeni in the last campaign.
Despite struggling with injury for the better part of the season, Oshoala emerged joint top scorer in the Primera Division after notching 20 goals from 19 games.
Her nomination for the award comes just three weeks after she was named 2022 African Women’s Player of the Year in Rabat, Morocco.
Following her inclusion among the best players in world football, Abubakar took to social media to congratulate Oshoala.
In a message on his official Twitter account, he wrote:
Congratulations, @AsisatOshoala, on your nomination, for which you are already a winner. This year is already turning out to be the Year of the Women in sports!
Thank you sir 🙏🏾

The 2022 Ballon d’Or nomination makes Oshoala the very first African woman to earn a nomination for the award.
