Los Blancos and Carlo Ancelotti missed Karim Benzema as La Liga leaders Real Madrid suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat in the hands of their rivals Barcelona in tonight’s El Clasico.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice while goals from Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres condemned Madrid to their heaviest home defeat of the season.

The result has little or nothing to do with La Liga trophy this season, but it shows how far Barcelona have come since the appointment of their former player Xavi earlier this season.

Real Madrid had beaten Barcelona twice this season but were the shadow of themselves without their talisman Karim Benzema as Barcelona thrashed them.

First Aubameyang opened the scoring when he headed home Dembele cross in the 29 minutes of the game. The Catalans quickly doubled their lead as Araujo jumped high to head in another Dembele cross to make it 2-0.

Torres made it 3-0 early in the second half before Aubameyang scored his second goal of the night in the 53 minutes for his first El Clasico.

Real Madrid still top the La Liga with 66 points, nine ahead of Sevilla that areĀ  second.

For Barcelona, they are now back to third position equal on 54 points with Atletico with a game in hand.
