Erik ten Hag has “terminated” his contract early so he can start working with this underwhelming Manchester United squad early.

The now-former Ajax boss was announced as Ralf Rangnick’s successor earlier this year as the club continues to spiral out of control in what is another trophyless season for the club. During his tenure at Ajax, the former footballer has managed to lead the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League where the inexperienced side was knocked out by a late winner against Tottenham in 2019 as well as winning the Eredivisie twice, the Dutch Cup twice and the Dutch Super Cup once.

Now, it has been reported that the incoming Manchester United manager is set to leave his position early and join United to begin work with the downbeat and lacklustre United team who currently lie sixth in the Premier League. The relatively inexperienced manager, who is yet to manage in any of Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues, has already been rumoured to be eying up former Ajax starlets Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

According to Mirror journalist David McDonnell, the Dutch manager is set to arrive in Manchester on Monday as he prepares the squad for the season ahead, as this one looks to come to an end with little to play for. Ahead of the arrival of the 52-year-old, questions have been raised about which Manchester United players will survive the rebuild that is expected over the summer.

David McDonnell tweeted:

Ten Hag has terminated his contract with Ajax six weeks early and will effectively start work at Man Utd tomorrow. He’s expected in Manchester tomorrow.
