Former Manchester United player Patrice Evra, says Chelsea’s record signing Romelu Lukaku made the wrong choice  in joining the Blues and was better off at Inter where he was scoring lots of goals.

Lukaku, who moved to Stamford Bridge last summer in a deal worth just short of £97.5million (N52.8billion), has struggled to make impact in west London.

In 36 appearances for Inter, the Belgian scored 24 league goals as he lifted Italy’s top-flight crown. However, in his second spell at Chelsea, he has netted only five league goals so far.

On top of the month-long injury, Lukaku caused controversy when he revealed to Sky Italy that he never wanted to leave Inter, and his relationship hasn’t been the same with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and the fans since.

And due to his ongoing struggles, Evra believes that Lukaku should’ve stayed in Italy after a successful season with Inter.

Speaking to Prime Video, Evra said:

People who criticise him have a short memory. Because when he arrived in London he scored and did well; then he got injured and said he missed Inter.

In the end, he created a bit of a mess with the [Chelsea] fans. He wanted to return to Chelsea at all costs, he should have stayed at Inter after such a high-level season. He made that choice there which for me is wrong.
